Press Release:
New Party Idea Is Getting Raves Galore
San Francisco, CA. Aug. 27, 2010 –
Parents looking for suitable children's party entertainment
often struggle to find something different. Magicians and clowns have long been
the obvious choice, but kids today
(or perhaps more importantly, their parents) are looking for parties that will
be the talk of the playground - and can compete with the "wow" factor
of video games.
It's a tall order, especially for parents on a budget. The
latest answer: hula hoops, or (as their devotees refer to them), hoops.
WHAM-O launched the Hula Hoop in 1958, and sold 25 million
in 4 months. It quickly became one of the most successful fads in U.S. history.
The craze eventually died in the 1960’s, but recently, the hoop has made a resurgence
in the fitness field.
It's also emerging as a hit in children's entertainment.
"Rather than standing in front of children and
performing a set series of routines, as is often the case with many children's
entertainers, we get the kids involved," said Choi Tse, founder of San
Francisco based Hoop Play, who previously performed with the humanitarian Spark
Circus in Thailand. "We’re different, in the sense that our entertainment
involves a performance, instruction, games and a music jam all with hoops.
Children can even decorate their own hoops and take them home. We feel that
this combination of activities delivers what children need to enjoy and
remember long after the balloons have deflated."
Choi saw first hand the joy that hoops can bring to people
of all ages and cultures after her stint with the non-profit Spark Circus in
2009 performing and sharing hoops skills at orphanages and refugee camps along
the border of Thailand and Burma. "I was just blown away by the instant
connection and smiles that the hoop brought to everyone. It’s a universal
language that’s instinctive and joyful,” Tse said.
Choi spent
weekends hooping at farmers markets, festivals, and community events, drawing
crowds wherever she went and having fun with adults and children alike.
"It made sense to combine my passion for hooping and children," Hope
said.
The key to hooping, according to Choi, is getting a hoop
that's the right size and weight. That's why all Hoop Play hoops are custom
made. Choi teach children special hoop moves like the helicopter, angels wing,
and the vortex in addition to a variety of hoop games and activities.
Justine Gibbson,San
Francisco, whom recently hired Hoop Play for her 9-year old daughter's birthday party said “This
was definitely the best party we’ve ever had. All the kids had a blast and it
was so original. We had such a good time. We'll probably do it again next year."
